The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Venezuela has announced the successful dismantling of the criminal gang known as Tren de Aragua, as part of an effort to combat “Organized Crime Structured Groups.” This operation is part of the government’s strategy to defend peace, justice, and human rights in the country.

The fight against organized crime has been a priority since the beginning of the current administration, with a particular focus on disbanding criminal groups such as Tren de Aragua, as well as gangs led by figures like El Koki, Wilmer Bachiller, and others.

The statement highlights that the process of dismantling Tren de Aragua was carried out in two stages. The first stage began in 2021, focusing on identifying and capturing leaders and members of the organization.

The second stage was activated after the takeover of the Tocorón prison on September 20, 2023, which allowed for the definitive disbanding of the gang and its financial infrastructure.

The organization reports that, to date, 48 arrests and trials have been recorded in connection with this criminal group, in addition to several members who have died in clashes with security forces. However, a significant number of their accomplices still have arrest warrants and red alerts issued by Interpol.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has also pointed out that one of the obstacles to progress in the trial of Tren de Aragua members is the support they receive on Colombian territory. According to the statement, the entry of these criminals into Colombia was facilitated by former President Iván Duque and his former chief, Álvaro Uribe.

It is also mentioned that some members of Tren de Aragua have managed to move to the United States with the help of Venezuelan political figures such as Leopoldo López and Miguel Pizarro. The FBI has testimony that supports these allegations, including communications between Venezuelan criminals and “pranes” inside prisons in the country.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to the fight against crime and expressed its readiness to resume criminal cooperation with the U.S. government, seeking the extradition of any Venezuelan member of transnational criminal groups operating on the continent.

This announcement marks a significant step in the Venezuelan government’s efforts to combat organized crime and restore security in the country.
